Day Order Any order to buy or sell a stock that is only valid for one day.
Defensive Buy An investment that is noted for low risk, but not high returns.
Dividend A redistribution of profits from the company to the stock holders declared by the board of directors. Dividends can be paid in more stock, cash, or property.
Downside Risk The possibility of a stock losing value should the market conditions get worse.
DRIP A plan offered by a corporation that allows investors to have their dividends reinvested by buying shares or fractional shares of stock.
Delivery Date The day a commodity futures contract must be delivered.
Delta The ratio of change in the price of a derivative with the price of the asset.
Delta Hedging A strategy using a portfolio of options that are not sensitive to the changes in the price of an underlying asset.
Derivative A security whose value depends on how well an underlying security performs.
Double Witching Similar to triple witching, but instead of three classes of options or futures expiring on the same day, it is only two.
Down-and-In Option An option that comes into existence when the price of an underlying security drops to a certain level.
Down-and-Out Option An option that is no longer valid when the price of an underlying security drops to a specified level.
